Final Thoughts on Site Planning & Implementation
This section hopefully won’t feel terribly disjointed, but there are a number of additional factors that must be addressed during design and implementation of a site plan that deserve attention.
Never stop observing. Observation informs action, changing plans. The truly engaged will view the world as a problem solver, pondering sub-optimal situations and systematically considering how they may be improved upon.
As we observe changes to the life of the land, we also need to ponder root causes of problems. Typically these days, when it comes to plants or animals having issues, it’s a result of poisoning, one way or another. Future sections will expand on some of these root causes.
Sometimes, once a sick plant has been identified, the answer is to let nature take its course. Years later, you may find that plants which you previously thought were dead suddenly return to life, producing fruit. Surrounding plants, naturally occurring in the area and left to grow wild, seem to have the ability to nurse plants back to health. It’s a truly spectacular event to witness, and I cherish the fact that I not only benefit with food from such occurrences, but I view this experience as a gift- an insight into just how little we “modern humans” truly understand about the mysteries of nature. After all, modern agricultural “wisdom” would declare that the plants that are suddenly alive and producing again should, in fact, be dying due to the competition with other native plants. Yet the opposite occurs. Discovering 15+ bushes suddenly bursting forth with food and medicine is a reminder of Who holds my life, as I attempt to navigate a world that is on a freight train towards full-on dystopia.
