Important Non-Toxic Mattress Updates + I Didn't See THIS coming
Your Non-Toxic home Newsletter Has Arrived!
Welcome, New Subscribers!
It may be a radical statement these days, but we can have different opinions about some topics and still be friends. While our opinions are always based on extensive research, weighing all sides of any issues, we respect your beliefs/opinions.
As we address many different topics, including faith-based topics, if you disagree with an assertion or are uninterested, simply ignore the article or video like you would have strolled past an uninteresting store when cruising the mall in the 90s!
I Didn’t See THIS Coming
After weeks of running around getting things accomplished (whilst attempting to avoid the sun, often unsuccessfully), it seems to have caught up with me. The morning after I started feeling fluish, I woke up suddenly unable to read close-up.
I had no issues reading for hours close-up the day before! That’s not normal. I also developed chest pains, which tells me that it was all (for me) related to radio frequency fields that are beyond the scope of detection for my meters. Grr!
Anyway, I’ve been working that new drama out, and thus, in conjunction with the sun-induced migraines of last week and prior, I’m behind in getting info out to you lovely folks. Sorry about me, but that’s my life for ya!
No Longer Recommended
I can no longer recommend Rawganique as freely as I did in my Non-Toxic/Latex-Free Clothing article, which I need to update accordingly. The Brighton Beach hoodie is NOT recommended specifically as I now strongly suspect latex content. Added to that, the customer service rep(s) attempted to gaslight me, declaring I’d never been an affiliate.
Gaslighting makes me very, very displeased with a company and is a very quick way to get on my list of companies to avoid.
Viva Raw is still super nice, but they’re adding unnecessary probiotics now, without letting me vet them, and their customer service reps are definitely seeing some cognitive decline. The last time I fed Kitty Viva Raw, she got sick. :( But they’re still better than almost all other pet food on the market. So there’s that.
Still recommended are the companies at the bottom of this newsletter!
Save Money NOW!
Labor Day and Memorial Day are the best times to catch mattress sales, and there are some stellar deals right now. (Thus, I’m sending this out a day earlier than normal.) I’m going to just dump my mattress-related articles below, so you can check things out yourself, but here’s a bit more updated info than the articles share:
White Lotus Home sells materials to make your own mattress! I had no idea. Use code NONTOXICHOME for 15% off. I like this company a LOT.
Open Your Eyes Bedding isn’t as fantastic as White Lotus Home in my book, but I did test their buckwheat hulls and they passed my tolerance tests with flying colors. Please avoid their Interlok fabric that’s being used to make the mattress bags… it made me SO sick from a minimal exposure. I strongly suspect latex and chemicals, but the owner insists the fabric is latex-free. (She’s not thrilled about the fabric not being organic, herself.) But, as most of you know, hardly anyone knows how to ask about latex content, and there are textile law loopholes here in the US that make it even harder to obtain accurate information.
Our DIY wool mattresses did compress quite a bit and are lumpy now. Mr. Non-Toxic is happy with his side, but I’m unhappy with my side. I need to take them apart and recard. That’s a LOT of work. Yay, more things to do! (I had hoped to get a mattress from White Lotus this year but this year has not gone as planned.)
Lots of people have asked me about kapok over the years. I haven’t done enough research to say for sure, but I do believe it’s a pretty healthy material. I have a reliable source whose brain I plan to pick about this option, as there isn’t enough information online for me to make a final determination.
Please note that my mattress articles were written before Google idiot bots finally figured out that when people search for “latex free,” they really mean “latex-free.” The same goes for the word non-toxic. So please excuse those grammatical issues.
If you try out any of the mattresses and love or hate them, or have a reaction, please let me know. That information helps me to help others!
