My Winter Sowing Plan for 2025 | Chaos Continues
Your Non-Toxic Home Newsletter for 1-24-2025 Is Here!
Welcome, New Subscribers!
It may be a radical statement these days, but we can have different opinions about some topics and still be friends. While our opinions are based on extensive research, weighing all sides of any issues, we respect your beliefs/opinions.
As we address many different topics, including faith-based topics, if you disagree with an assertion or are uninterested, simply ignore the article or video like you would have strolled past an uninteresting store when cruising the mall in the 90s!
Quick Question? Consultation Request? Just Saying Hi?
The best way to contact me is to add nontoxichome (at) protonmail (dot) com to your contact list, then send me an email. Otherwise, my responses often end up in the spam folder or lost in the ether… sometimes they still disappear. So feel free to email again if you’re wondering.
Please put “consultation” in the email subject line for quicker turn-around to initial consultation requests.
“Burn Back Better” Continues + Brr
We have some absolutely lovely subscribers living in the LA area. I have been praying for them, and hope you are sending them your love as well.
Some subscribers are also in the Southeastern US, which is getting hammered with freezing temperatures and snow now. As if the events of the past year haven’t been enough for them to handle!
I just don’t even know what to say about these things anymore, besides that I pray for peace for anyone enduring such chaos. Honestly with such a sky-high empathy level, I can’t think about such suffering much or I end up with physical repercussions.
Know that if you are enduring any of these circumstances, you have been prayed for (or sent good vibes, whatever floats your boat).
The Ultimate Guide to Winter Sowing!
Freshly updated mega-post alert!
Over the years, I’ve experimented with a wide variety of approaches to winter sowing. As someone who battles medical challenges, I have to be intentional with my energy and time. And thus, I experiment.
This extensive article (with pictures!) shares what I’ve tried and what’s worked for me, offering ideas for what you can try to save money and up your self-sufficiency game!
My Winter Sowing Plans for 2025
This year, my plans for winter sowing are simple. I’m planning to plant exclusively via NTWSing (No Transplant Winter Sowing)! Quite frankly, I’ve had such success from the method, it’s pointless to me to expend more energy (and expense, via potting soil) doing anything else.
As soon as the snow melts and the ground can be worked a bit, I’ll be starting to work in the garden to pull some weeds that came up last fall and get some seeds in under my glass cloches near the middle of the garden. I’ll have to pull out the old plants from last summer/fall first, but that’s a gradual process, so there will still be plenty of shelter for beneficial insects in the garden.
Truly, I do mean that I could start planting out there in a couple of weeks depending on the weather. Tilling the perimeter of the garden will wait until spring most likely- and I never did repair that daggone fence post section that fell!
I’ll focus on getting lettuce, cabbage, peas, and corn mache in first, then plant some tomato, pepper, basil, and squash seeds. Seeds are cheap and I have plenty anyways, so if I need to replant, it’s not a problem. Most of my seeds are those I’ve been saving every year. If you haven’t been doing so, I can’t encourage seed saving enough, as you end up with much hardier plants.
That’s my plan for this year’s winter sowing extravaganza!
