Above all other considerations, the most important factor in selecting property is budget. Are you looking to build a healthy home? Establish a large working homestead or farm to provide sustenance and primary income? Simply find a simple, safe place to pitch a tent as a weekend escape from the city?
For most of my life, this was common sense. Before you did something big, or made a significant investment, you figured out your budget. But starting in 2020 and ramping up in 2023, it’s no longer common sense. But, then, that’s the case for most basic logic nowadays, it seems!
We dealt with this issue multiple repeatedly with clients in 2023, and the couple of projects with which we proceeded in spite of this issue and our multiple warnings ended badly as the client ran out of money. Thus, this is now a non-starter. Know your maximum budget before making any decisions. Do not take money from that budget during the project for other things. If you have to do so, be sure to account for it and make adjustments accordingly.
Obviously, dear reader, you don’t need to hear the above exhortations, but you might be surprised at just how pervasive these issues have become.
