Here at Non-Toxic Home, we logically consume a non-toxic diet! Just because the name is Non-Toxic Home doesn’t suggest that one starts with building materials on their health journey. Quite the opposite, in fact, is what I’ve recommended to others for many years!
Start with what is going into your body, then on your body, and continue working your way outwards. Do what you can, when you can. Be gentle with yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day, and our bodies weren’t poisoned in a day either!
As always, this is not to be considered as medical information or advice. Consult your doctor about everything under the sun, per the acronym agencies. You’ll probably just want to hire a concierge doctor. Be sure you're a billionaire for that.
Personally I’m not a huge fan of the word “diet” as that suggests limitation and stale breadcrumbs on top of rice cakes to me (neither of which I eat, coincidentally). Over the years I have tried some actual diets, with the primary one of import for those with diagnoses such as Mast Cell Activation Syndrome and multiple chemical sensitivities being the low histamine diet. Keeping my food intake low histamine helped keep me alive in moldy rentals for years.
Since I have mercury amalgams, candida is an issue was well for me, so I am mindful of foods naturally high in sugar such as mangoes.
Quite frankly, I could probably write a book on diets, which I have zero interest in doing. So let’s move on to today!
The Non-Toxic Diet Lifestyle
Today I don’t diet. I live a lifestyle as in tune with the seasons and nature as possible. I listen to my body and ask if something is good for me today. It varies from day to day.
And yes, I am prone to grabbing wild edibles and tomatoes from the garden and gobbling them up on the spot when the mood hits me. But that's not often these days as I've been practicing intermittent fasting since 2020 now.
It definitely helps keep reactions in check, giving my body a rest from the constant detox required in this toxic world!
Here are some descriptors of my “diet” today:
Mostly homegrown
Partially foraged
Demi-keto
Nutritarian
Clean
Vegetarian
Seasonal
99.9% AMAZINGLY HEALTHY
Throughout the year, my diet shifts, as it should. Anything I don’t produce is carefully sourced, and I store herbs and food from April/May through October most years. That alone is enough to keep anyone busy! With only about 20-30 hours per week available for me to actually be productive in life (seriously), I’d say I’m pretty efficient with my time and energy.
I’ve lost over 80 pounds in the past 5 years, by the way, without trying to lose weight. It was needed. Chemical exposure and mold cause weight gain in many, and I was no exception.
What I eat keeps me going, lugging around 40-50 pound bags of chicken feed, hiking around our property, and having more muscle today on my body than I have had since I was in my early teenage years! I don't sit at the computer all day and write. Rather, I am physically doing things.
The fact is, most people eat far more than is necessary, and keep their body constantly working hard at processing food. And thus, modern civilization is overweight and sorely incapable of fending for themselves.
But I digress...
What I Eat Today
Most of what I eat, I produce myself. It doesn’t get much more controlled than that! Eggs from my hens, foraged greens, fermented foods, and veggies from the garden are mainstays in my “non-toxic diet” for much of the year. But there are some things I consume which I don’t produce.

Positive Wrap-Up
Food doesn’t have to be so complicated. Even though most of what I eat I produce/ store/ forage myself, I don’t spend more time cooking than most people do, really. Although this year, my prolific tomato plants might have me figuring out some water bath canning recipes we like!
Remember, it’s a lifestyle…. Not a diet. No pressure!
